Welcome to RiverHistory.com

Introduction

My name is Bill Wiemuth and for more than a decade now, I have been blessed to work aboard riverboats plying the rivers of the United States. As a River Historian I have become increasingly fascinated with the drama of the events that have occured along these rivers. As this site continues to develop, I look forward to sharing with you some of the incredible stories.

Delta Queen Struggles to Survive

The Steamboat "Delta Queen" is the last authentic overnight steam-powered paddlewheeler in operation and a National Historic Landmark. I have the pleasure of lecturing aboard her for most of 2008. Without Congressional intervention, she will be forced out of service as of November 1, 2008! As if that wasn't enough, the current owners have also put her up for sale.

I am writing frequent updates on the fate of the boat, her history, her legislative struggle, and treasured memories and occurances onboard during the remainder of her 2008 season. Please visit my blog often at www.DeltaQueenHistory.com or CLICK HERE.

River History

The history of our nation's westward expansion was written along the banks of its rivers. There are endless tales of adventure, struggle, and tragedy filled with fascinating characters ranging from the heroic to the nefarious. This nation was shaped and defined by these arteries. Paddlewheel steamboats were the first mechanized travel and revolutionized transportation and the economy and culture of the nation. Their stories are the stuff of legend.

About Me

Since 1998, I have been fortunate to live and work aboard riverboats traveling the waterways of the United States. Somehow, I have been lucky enough to be paid to study the history of these rivers and and provide presentations to cruise passengers about the history of these fascinating arteries of our country.
Along this great journey, I have now researched, written and produced a River History Series of audio CD recordings which now includes 15 CDs. Learn more about my CDs and how to order them HERE.
I continue to study, write and give lectures on the cruises and for groups all across the country.
My reasearch during the Lewis and Clark bicentennial also moved me to develop a motivational presentation entitled "Success Strategies from the Lewis and Clark Expedition" which I frequently share at corporate events.

My other love is entertaining. My partner, Laura Sable and I have written and performed shows for Holland America Line, Delta Queen Steamboat Company, and Majestic America Line.
I also serve as Laura's musical director, arranger, and accompaniest for her many appearances as a headline entertainer on cruises and as a featured entertainer in cabaret shows. To enjoy her video promo, visit her website HERE.
